It’s a funny thing. When I started out with the single malts I also preferred the speysides, and lately the peated ones have become my go-to.

Now a speyside tastes almost bland.

Did you change the name? If yes the HELL YES!!

I went through the Glen Moray Phase and they had really good tasting single malts (much more aggressive than the more expensive whiskys) they had peated, chardonnay and port cask finish, they were all very very good

Still have a bottle of the peated Glen Moray in my cabinet.
I also find the NAS (no age statement) whiskies to be a bit more harsh. The barrel aging polishes off the spikey bits

I like that, I will use it in future - "much more aggressive", yes I guess thats why I have always been privately disappointed in the best whiskeys I tasted. You actually answered something for me in your post, I like rougher whiskeys then.

Neat Whiskey gets me waaaay too drunk, I like to dilute with a touch of water or a lot of Ice, the photo is my typical Ice to pleasure ratio

I think it was Moomin that once served me whisky with a marble (or some other ceramic type material close to it) as an “ice” block.

Kept the whisky chilled but the taste strong as it comes, I had forgotten about it until I saw that clear ice block.

I have black river pebbles I freeze for same purpose. My Dad said that the term "on the rocks" came from freezing stones to use instead of ice, so as not to dilute the drink. I use them for Vodka drinks.

I actually have/had a rubber tray of 4 large ice cubes like that, im pretty sure its still somewhere in my house ill have a look, those large Ice cubes are awesome!!
I much rather prefer to dilute the whisky slightly because it gets easier to drink as you go along...

Yes I have also noticed some disappointment with more high end single malts, the trick is to use less ice and no water because they all ready taste much softer

Please elaborate on the ice messing with the taste, I am a bit of an ice lover.
I also enjoy putting drinks in freezer for a while.

I always felt whiskey was nicer with ice -3 tots, 4 blocks ice let stand for a moment or four.
What is the "no no" with ice? And whiskey?

The fine folks from The Modern Rogue & The Wizard Academy got you covered. I'd find the exact point where it's explained but I'm lazy.
