    How big is the rat?

Wuhan rat? Or Karoo rat? :-)

    Kom ons se n streepmuis😂

I want to be able to have options, shoot close and enjoy playing with it but also be able to compete and zoom in enough to see the hole in the paper at 70 or 80m, I want to be able to do both

You're going to struggle to see holes in paper at 9x or 12x (I have a 4-12x on my .22 and I can't see holes at 100m, unless the paper is blank and the target is a dot)

Pick a scope with an exposed target style turret and a suitable crosshair.

I think the NRL/PRS rimfire style shoots are going to become popular.

To see .22 holes at 50m I have a Nikko 5-20 x 50mm on mine. At further range you will have to look at 25-30x magnification.

I went with a 3-9 as I wanted to keep my setup as lightweight as possible and most of my shooting is done 50m and in. I do agree seeing the holes on the range though is an issue . If I used it less in the field and more on the range I would have chosen something else.

For the times when you want to see the hole on target at a further distance, consider looking at purchasing a spotting scope later.
