    Default Martini Henry Values.

An ordinary non collectible model, 577/450 in good working condition.
Are there usable as everyday hunting condition 577/450 M/H rifles still out there and what are they worth.
My local gunsmith said" kry klomp van hulle, R1000, R1500", but never when I am around. Heard they have no value, heard the valuable, heard it’s all about condition and heard "even good ones have no real value"

What is the take on these old relics?

In good condition they often go for R3500 - R5000; sometimes even more depending the model.

They used to be given away untill a few years ago, then they started fetching prices.

I think my asking started the price hike.

The problem is since Holts stared buys up all our old guns and exporting them overseas where they get sold for WAAAAAAY more than we can afford to buy them at, the prices have shot up dramatically. Unfortunately we are losing our heritage to a better exchange rate.

I paid 4 K for mine plus storage and transport. The reason I bought it was because of the remarkable
and unusual history behind it. Functions perfectly but you can see it has been in the wars.

Holts is an international auctioneer. They often buy the stuff and then auction or sell it overseas at the prices people are willing to pay there. For example I own a Webley MK VI, made in 1918. I bought it for R1000. Classic Arms auction prices Realize at about R4500-5000. In the US they can sell for nearly double that.

Yes the local auction houses are becoming almost unobtainable for local buyers, its sad actually, recent past auction prices as an example. I'm yet to get a Henry but got a neat little martini enfield in 303 for around 3500.
