Bought this recently at a 2nd-hand bookshop. It is an excellent read. Judging by the style of writing, Ruark was heavily influenced by this for Use Enough Gun and Horn of the Hunter. The cast is similar (especially the somewhat enigmatic, larger-than-life professional hunter), as are the inter-character dynamics.

It's a short read, but with high "content density". He may write long sentences, but there are no unnecessary words.

And towards the end of the book you'll want to shoot Garrick too.
