What's in your huntpack
What do you carry along when stepping into a hunt?
Backpack or slingbag, or none.
Waterbottle, or wineskin?
Skinning knife, or hunting knife?
Firstaid kit?
Snacks?
Bi or monoculars?
Rangefinder, or thermal?
Hat?
Rifle sling, or none?
Tripod, bipod or more-pod?
Radio?
Ammo hardpack or softpack?
Or just a knife?

Re: What's in your huntpack
I carry far more now than I used to, although I may leave some stuff at camp depending on the where I hunt.
Binos and rangefinder on my chest.
Backpack:
Gut hook and skinning knife
4 Cotton pillow cases to carry meat in
Poncho
Blaze orange buff as a spare
Cable ties
Lighter
First aid kit
Small space blanket
Cellphone battery bank (By law I need to have GPS-guiding on my hunt map so cannot afford to run out of cellphone battery)
Headlamp and one spare battery
Spare pair of hiking socks
Waterbottle x2 (Considering replacing one with a lifestraw bottle. There’s always water in the areas I hunt)
Usually some nuts and droëwors for lunch
Handheld 2-way radio. Bloody heavy thing.
When I hunt with a buddy we try to share the load and not double up on items.Sent electronically, thus not signed.

Re: What's in your huntpack
Dankie Woodsie, I looked in the 'accessories' forum, but did not do a general search. Treeman's jagsak does seem to have a bit of everything!

Re: What's in your huntpack
An essential item in any hunting back pack is those pre-moistened toilet wipes. Good for having a veltie and for getting getting blood and stuff off your hands after a kill.

Re: What's in your huntpack
If you are hunting in a remote place where getting lost is a possibility and there isn’t cellphone coverage I would add a Sat Phone and a GPS device.
The Gaia App (in the Apple App Store and possibly android?) for iPhone is excellent, and uses the DoD signal onto detailed maps in the cache on your phone so doesn’t need cell signal. It traces your route so you can backtrack shows terrain paths roads topography etc. Pretty useful to get you out of the dwang when there are no landmarks.

To add to this, I used Avenza Maps on my android which has offline maps for free from Chief Directorate: Geo-spatial Information for south africa. https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...?id=com.Avenza

Re: What's in your huntpack
I've made up a hunting box (addis rough tote) that i take on the hunt with me and then i take out the box what i will need for the day. It also depends if I'm going on foot or in a vehicle. If a vehicle is close by, then i go light with a radio, cell phone, camelbak and a knife.
My back pack will have a few small colored cable ties, lunch / snacks / chocolate, warm gloves, extra ammo and binoculars.
My hunting box covers first aid, meat cutting, comms, cooking, carcass handling and ablutions.
