Type 56 or Type 56S?

Good morning.

This might be a dumb question but I regularly see reference to Norinco Type 56S. As far as I know we get the Type 56-1, 56-2 and 56-3.

So my dumb question: What is the difference between Type56 and Type 56S?

And maybe a followup. The Type56 available currently is SA, are they 56 or 56S?

S was a designation between various stocks. S2 side folder, s1 under folder, etc.

As for the Type 56, that's a deep rabbit hole... depending on the Era it was made in, by which factory etc
