Re: .22 lr handgun- what makes?
Just received my license for a Smith & Wesson model 18-3 22lr rewolver. I can heavily recommend it, it is an awesome "little" gun, loads of fun and extremely accurate. Bought mine for R500, it look simmilar to the photo below.

Re: .22 lr handgun- what makes?
First you have to decide whether you want a pistol* or a revolver. Then decide on barrel length. For target/plinking, 4-6 inches is good, I'd go with 5-6 inches myself.
Then, pick a budget. I have revolvers I paid R200 for, I also have a revolver I paid R12000 for (Freedom Arms, and yes, that was a bloody good price).
You can't go wrong with the Buck Mark or the Ruger pistols. The Star FR is a nice target pistol, and available cheaply. The K-22 smiths are bloody nice and if you can get one for R500 pounce on it.
If you want extremely accurate, the Anschutz is basically a left handed bolt rifle on a pistol grip. They're expensive-ish because we use 'em in silhouettes, like the Hammerlis and the Freedom Arms. Much cheaper than the latter though :-)
So yea, answer those and we can talk some more :-)
mic: *nice* Lancer. Mine's not nearly that nice. Hell, *neither* of mine are that nice :-)
*Yes, a revolver is also a pistol. "semi-automatic pistol" if you wanna be pedantic.Last edited by wrm; 28-07-2011 at 19:37.

Re: .22 lr handgun- what makes?
Consider a Walther PP .22, scarce but a wonderful little gun. My Manhurin version is reliable and accurate. My S&W M41 is normally reliable and as accurate as many rifles, use only with standard or subsonic ammunition however. Have just bought a Ruger Mk II bull barrel which is supposed to work well with HV cartridges

Re: .22 lr handgun- what makes?
Had a look at two Browning's yesterday at Kalahari arms, one with a bull barrel and one without. Very nice pistol but for over R4000 ill give it a skip.
