The santa barbara is a K98 buildt in Portugal iirc
    It is a casting.
Purists will prefer that an action is machined out of a single piece of steel though
The RSA action and Remington 700 is castings as well and superbly accurate.
It has a safety on the side which is more convenient than the normal Mauser flag type safety when a scope is fitted.

Fit and finish normally very good and thats why I think Musgrave used them as well

    Nice action IMHO

O and they normally have adjustable triggers

ive been following this thread thinking "what the hell kind of musgrave do i have! this spells it out as does Benn's pics. i too have a .308 built on a santa barbara action it would seem. no model number on my rifle. but serial starts with R-XXXX

I think they were actually made in Spain, cast as you said. I have a PDF or picture of an article about them somewhere that I will give a link to later tonight, if I remember.

Here is my Musgrave 308 Santa Barbara after some much needed TLC by the local gunsmith. Now just the paperwork and a new Vortex scope before she is ready to race! My serial number is R-76309. Any ideas on how I can find out the year it was made?

The Santa Barbara actions seemed to vary in quality. The heat treatment thereof was reportedly sometimes an issue. Just what I have read over the years.

Another thing that I like on the Santa Barbara is that its supposed to be more rigid than a normal k98 as there is no cutout for loading stripper clips
