Applying to "store a firearm"
Hi Everyone.
I have a question. A friend on mine's Brother in Law is immigrating to NZ next month and has a CZP09 which he wants to sell to said friend (lets call him Bob). Bob does not have a competency or anything and will be handing it in this week or next. He has inquired about getting the firearm stored as dealer stock, but with the price of storage its going to make the final purchase price too much. Considering he can buy a smaller EDC for less.
Can I apply to store the firearm on his behalf until his competency and license has been approved. If so what is the process and rough turnaround.

Re: Applying to "store a firearm"
Yes you can store the firearm on his behalf.
Storage permit is sighed and approved at DFO level. No waiting period. Fill in the form, take to DFO, go home and store the firearm.
Storage permit can only be issued if you have a similar firearm already in your possession.

Re: Applying to "store a firearm"
The storage period is limited to 6 months, so, if the process of getting competency and licence is not completed within the period, it will have to be renewed

Incorrect, I've had storage permits for 12 months.

Re: Applying to "store a firearm"
Depending what mood the DFO is in, it gets issued for 6 months or 1 year. After one expired after 6 months, I went to get it extended. Same DFO changed the date on the original permision to store to be valid for another year.
