come on, admit it... that's one bad-ass lookin' and battle-tested rifle.

The US sold the M14 tooling and production machinery to Tiawan (Republic of China) in 1967-1968. Tiawan did not resell, and while the machinery has been destroyed they still have the TDP and could resume making them any time they chose. The Communist Chinese reverse engineered theirs from rifles captured in RVN, and while they may sometimes be decent rifles, they vary a lot in hardness and QC, and bolts and, sometimes, barrels are crap while triggers / hammers often need replacing. They can be made into a nice rifle (they do have forged receivers) but US military surplus parts are not nearly as easy to find, or as cheap, as they used to be. Most owners who have done nothing to their rifles have not shot them much. OTOH for what they sell for in Canada (around $400USD or so I seem to recall) they are not a bad plinker or basis for a rebuild if you already have a fistful of US military parts.

The FAL is and always was a better battle rifle IMO.

I had a look at the CQA M4 today. IMO it feels very nice.
