Federal HST 230 gr +P JHP (P45HST1)

Speer Gold Dot 230 gr JHP
Winchester Ranger-T 230 gr JHP (RA45T)
Winchester Ranger-T 230 gr +P JHP (RA45TP)
Notes:
-- Obviously, clone loads using the same bullet at the same velocity work equally well (ie. Black Hills ammo using Gold Dot bullets, Corbon loads using Barnes XPB bullets, etc…)
-- Bullet designs like the Silver Tip, Hydra-Shok, and Black Talon were state of the art 10 or 15 years ago. Modern ammunition which has been designed for robust expansion against clothing and intermediate barriers is significantly superior to the older designs. The bullets in the Federal Classic and Hydrashok line are outperformed by other ATK products such as the Federal Tactical and HST, as well as the Speer Gold Dot; likewise Winchester Ranger Talons are far superior to the old Black Talons or civilian SXT's."

This is the list I use to buy ammo (if it's available). DocGKR is THE man when it comes to terminal ballistics.

If you manage to find any of the listed loads. Ensure they are reliable in your gun and buy as many as you can afford.

Re: SD Ammo that "demonstrate outstanding terminal performance"
I replace the ammo in the gun at least once a year. But stored in a cool dry place it lasts a loooong time.

Re: SD Ammo that "demonstrate outstanding terminal performance"
CARRY AMMO
The OIL in your gun is the danger for SD ammo.
For any SD ammo you have loaded yourself ........
A trick is to paint some BRIGHT VIOLENT PINK ladies nail varnish on the back of the primers.
ok some black varnish if you want to be Gothic or SWAT :-)
This stops oil leeching into the primer..(Most quality SD ammo is sealed anyway .. but you never know cfd89)
CLEANING / MAINTENANCE
1. Ensure your magazines, chamber and breech face are oil free and dry.
2. Next tip - every 2nd week - remove all ammo from mags and dry them thorougly in a cloth.
3. Put them in a bank bag with some talcom powder - to give them an extra dry and shine + they smell nice happy0065
