Springbok ram hunted on foot west of Ashkam last week. Prone over crest of dune at 09h30 with sun behind me, 75m shot with 416 Rigby, open sights. Patience is a virtue.

Re: Springbok hunting, a short guide.
It was a fantastic couple of days of hunting with the traditional heavier calibres with 404, 450/400, 500 and some other very interesting rifles getting taken out and used.
Surprisingly little meat damage with heavier bullets travelling slower. but there was certainly no danger of being undergunned.
Thanks on the rifle, I am very happy with it.

Re: Springbok hunting, a short guide.
Thanks, it's a current John Rigby & Co, Big Game Rifle, double square bridge Mauser M98 action in .416 Rigby. It came with a figured Walnut stock which makes me want to take it out of the safe just to look at it. I hunted with the standard shallow V and bead sight, which worked fine up to 85m from prone, sitting, off low sticks and using a branch as rest but expect that a peep sight and blade or ghost ring setup may give more confidence. I do have a swing off Recknagel mount and Leupold 1.5-5x20 for it which I plan to take out for Kudu next weekend.

Geewhizz that sounds like an amazing rifle! How do you find the .416 recoil?
