I will be going in for my competency test etc on Thursday next week, super excited :D Any tips?
Yes.. Enjoy it!!Its fun, easy and fool proof.. I must tell you about some bloke that attended the test when i was there.Ill rather post that story in the joke section. In short: when they asked him what firearms he is attending for he repeated what I said.. i was there for hand gun and manually operated rifle. When the instructer asked why are we attending this course he replied and said hes a new applicant for armed security.. now imagine a fedility gaurd standing infront of the bank with a bolt action 303.. lolAt the range he turned around pointing the gun at the group, he also could not hit the A3 target from 5 meters. When they handed him the 223 semi-auto rifle he grabed it like a mozambiquan rebel holds an AK47 head sraight not even thinking of sights and started shooting. Guess what.. he walked away with his certificate!
All the best with the whole process. Read through this forum, and you'll develop a keen understanding, especially legals.
Relax Stan. Not that hard. Hell, they even let me pass. Witch proficiency's will you do? Handgun? 10 shots from 7meters in a A4 size target, no time limit IIRC. You must try very hard to miss at that distance.
The theoretical stuff will be (should be) explained, also not that difficult. Sterkte, enjoy.
I'm starting off with a pistol, going to register it for SD, its a FN BHP Competition model (Its my fiancé's late fathers gun so its just sitting there). Busy going through the Law and Hand Gun books.
It's straight forward hey. As they guys have said, i'ts hard to miss the target at 7 m, and the theory is straight forward.
Good luck.
If you can afford it I would do all three competencies and be done with it. Plus you'll get to shoot more! :g:
Well I have passed, I have my Legal test and Handle and use a handgun Test Certificates. Now its time to do all the paperwork :)
just got sms on friday 8/02/2013- license application has been finalised and to contact dfo- he says need to wait for card to be printed, any1 knows how does it take for card- kzn
Sorry! how long does it take to get license card?
My competency and License apps are both in today :h1:, what do I do now?? :mm:
Now its the longest 4-12 weeks of your life.
Or 16 weeks until it gets approved, then another 2 to 4 weeks to get the card.
Just received a SMS, my comp is receiving attention at the DFO.
Does competency need to be renewed?
Its only now reached the Provincial DFO :re:. Going an OK speed I guess?
Bud im sorry to say but you still have a while to wait.
you want to phone all the time, i used to phone every Friday afternoon. I never phoned the morning as it may be scanned in after lunch or something and you phoned first thing in the morning.
But if its still with DFO here it still has to go through these steps
1. sent to cfr (can take a while depending on when they send them)
2 Recieved (can keep this status for a couple of days)
3. Sent to CRC (up to a week)
4. Back to CFR (day or two)
5. Consideration phase. (within a week normally, but can go faster)
Then its your licence to start.
Sorry about messing your friday up.
My comp is in for consideration today, and i started the process 2 and a bit months ago. From KZN
This is my time-line: Submitted both Comp and Lic simultaneously.
Drop-off docs at local DFO: 28 Jan 2013
DFO Att SMS received: 12 Feb 2013
Received at CFR: 26 Feb 2013
COMP Received: 22 March 2013
Lic Consideration: 9th April 2013 and still waiting.
I'm in the same boat
2013-03-27 : Handed in application + SMS "Comp cert receiving attention @ DFO"
2013-04-10 : SMS "Comp cert receiving attention @ Provincial DFO"
2013-04-18 : Application received at CFR (confirmed when called today - no SMS yet...)
Just got my magic SMS what a good Friday!
Just called the CFR for the 1st time, 3 rings later.. Hello. Apparently another 2 weeks and I will have either my license or be reapplying for it. (obviously the latter would suck balls)
Is it in for consideration?
Yup, the last SMS I received was: the provincial DFO has looking at it, so I checked up on them now and its in Pretoria, unfortunately, being all the way down south takes a bit longer.
Good luck!
The feeling of waiting is just going to get worse the more process it makes, good luck
Just received the SMS - Your license has been finalized, rang up my DFO immediately and she said its approved :ch: and she will give me a call once my card arrives, Insert super excited face here --> .
Nice!! Congrats dude!
I hope your card is speedy
Congrats.
Mine was printed on the 9th of July ... just waiting for the DFO to fetch it.
Approximately how long does it take to print out one's card?
Just got the call, on my way to fetch my license in a few minutes.
Congrats Stan.
Was told today that my application is nowhere to be found. Dfo been avoiding me all day. Guess its time to start again. What a waste of a month.
Wow that sucks big time, good luck - hope you made copies of everything.
hi guys how long does it take to get your card and cant they give you a temp card or a printout :st:
It depends on your DFO hey, my card took 1 month till I was able to collect it where another member here had his card if I remember correctly 2 days after approval and my license and his were approved the same day so it depends on how lucky you are in my opinion.
They not allowed to give printouts any more and most shops wont accept a printout.
