Agreed. But they do last for a while

As mentioned ours is at least 15 years old.
And we use them every single day.
Cant say I would think they appear even remotely not sharp.
So they do last very long. As you mention.
Triangular Lansky stone, or something similar.
Or a rounded and tapered sharpening rod, but they are mostly too thick for the small serrations on the Victorinox steak knives.
If nothing else is available you can get a dremel tool with a very small stone tip grinder, but please be very careful - they remove metal fast.
Thanks for all advise given, but it looks like a new set of knives will be in order. Mine has seen better days after being in daily use since being bought in Switzerland in 2004.
Sometimes Friedman offer free victorinox sharpening services.
I have a Spyderco sharpener with triangular ceramic sticks. This should be able to sharpen the knives. I bought many years ago, but the sharpener now is way above R1000.
Would a bench grinder with a cloth buffing wheel and buffing soap not do the job? I have thought about it but never tried it.
I'll second the spyderco sharpmaker. It is very easy to sharpen the Victorinox serrations with this system and then you will have something to use for your EDC knives or any other knives you use. It does both SE and PE.
I also bought mine some time ago so not sure about price now.
I sharpened one of my moms Victorinox serrated edge knives in under 5 minutes.
The lanksy system needs you to focus on each serration and constantly flip the blade over. Way too time consuming and tedious for me.
