Commonly known as the "Waaistert grond eekhoring"

They have the tendency to sit upright on their rear legs with the tail upright too, when perched like this and watching their surroundings they flick the tail causing a slight waving action thus the name "Waaistert"

It intrigues me how the Vaal Meerkat sits seemingly relaxed but at the same time is watching the camera with a beady eye and keeping a look out.
