Re: Which medium Caliber to buy/get
Thanx for the suggestions so far.
Very few GS have a 264 reamer and barrel replacements with SAPS sounds like a PITA.
I did not even consider a 270 and will give it some thought. The reason why I did not consider it that I have not encountered a lot of 270 that group very well.
6mm is too small
The 7rem mag is very good but recoil is a bit much.

Re: Which medium Caliber to buy/get
I don't think you can go wrong with a 7x64. Equal to the 270 with lighter bullets but better than the 270 with heavier bullets due to typically fast twist. Very wide choice of 7mm bullets available, much more so than 270.
280 is for all intents & purposes the same as a 7x64 (load data is generally regarded as interchangeable) but normally has a slower twist.

Re: Which medium Caliber to buy/get
Just stop with the 30-06-ism first.
Meaning you want something that can shoot from this to this bullet weight, nobody does that and judging from your hunting record neither do you.
Select your bullet and speed and buy a cartridge that will do that for you.

Re: Which medium Caliber to buy/get
Thanx for the feedback guys.
Which caliber then that can push a 120gr mono at 3000ish f/p/s?

Re: Which medium Caliber to buy/get
The .270 must stand well toward the front of the queue, if not at the front. It certainly chases a 130gr. rather rapidly if thats your thing and a 120gr. would probably clock 3 200fps.
Never heard of a .270 that fails to shoot well with a 130 or a 150gr. bullet.
Messor is rather fond of the caliber and has lots of miles on them, ask him what his loads are?One too many wasted sunsets and one too many for the road .........

Re: Which medium Caliber to buy/get
I have shot my 139GMX loads at 3050fps out of my 7x64 which has a 24 inch barrel. S365 was the propellant. I am toning that down to 2890fps to reduce pressure and wear. With 120 I see a max speed of 3150fps in my notes.
My normal 150 Barnes TSX give excellent service at 2860fps.

Re: Which medium Caliber to buy/get
A 6.5 creedmoor with 26 inch barrel will probably throw hornady gmx 120gr at around 3000fps?

Re: Which medium Caliber to buy/get
Currently I still shoot barnes but if my stash runs out I will probably go over to 114gr Kriek.
A standard 270 will push them to 3250ft/s with mediocre pressure, ensuring a long barrel life.
I have no need to load heavier since I have bigger guns, same as you.
Must say what you are asking for is what a 270 was designed for.

Ruger M77 Hawkeye 270 Win in matt Stainless, thou shalt never look back.
My licence card pile bought and sold must look like a half loaf of sliced bread, and there is one weapon that has always stood out - the .270 Win in stainless, it started my Ruger - Hornady love affair.
