Best option for a 40S&W is the 9mmP version of that make of firearm.

I really think the only rational reason in SA for a pistol in .40 is IPSC Standard division. Obviously we are entitled to our own irrational preferences, but that is what second and third handguns are for - not your first.

Between the SW and the Glock in 40 the SW is better.
I owned both and shot them side by side.
Both are excellent guns but the SW was more reliable with factory amm and way more if I used relaoded ammom bought from the range.

It is not my intention to get into a cockfight, just stating my personal hands-on experience with both brands that I own and I don't use the money from this to pay the rent.

In terms of how it feels in the hand ( I know ) , the SW wins.
In terms of accuracy , I was more accurate with the SW.

and the barrel is better for the 40 in the SW than the Glock.

    Ill chose the S&W M&P for 40, wish they made a M&P in 10MM.

I shoot both my M&P pistols better than I did any of the 3 Glocks I have owned. Also better than I do my carry H&K. The S&W has superior ergonomics, steel sights and a great trigger out of the box (not Gen 1 though)

My newest S&W & H&K are both chambered in 40S&W. I didn't buy 40S&W because I think it's better, I got both for a great deal (secondhand) and was already set up for loading that caliber. The bullets are more expensive, so are cases for it. Primers and propellant comes to the same as 9mm so take that into consideration. Carry rounds are the same price as 9mm.

The rifling on the S&W is also better for shooting lead, if that is a consideration.

You misread or I did not write clearly. Did not say it is not suited for occasional sport shooting.

If I must choose a EDC gun that I am dedicated to carry everyday the whole day, it would not be a S&W MP2 or even any .40 SW. A Glock conceals and carry and come out of concealment with more ease of all the handguns I own. Nothing that catches on clothing that are doing the concealing.

For dedicated sport shooting on a serious scale I would rather use a S&W than a Glock. Those Smiths are "sweet" shooting pistols.

(Side note: Myself carry and "sport shoot" Glocks. I love my Glocks, but am of opinion that there are easier shooting sport guns.)

The OP stated that he wants to use a firearm for "Sport Shooting and OCCASIONAL carry." That is understood by myself as more sport shooting than carrying once in a while if he "feels" he want to carry a gun.

There are not a lot of Dedicated everyday concealed carry gunowners that would buy a S&W MP 2 .40 sw.

    Avoid all compacts in 40.

I like the 35 and honestly running 180 PF loads I would be hesitant to go smaller than that...

    Hi Guys
This is going to sound silly,
I already invested in some lee dies, some almost 200 brass cases and cleaning equipment for a 40.
I had a p320 in 40, but got rid of it after the lawsuits on accidental discharges.
And personally I liked the feel of the 40, and i know the majority prefer 9mm.

    The HK compacts are sweet.
    The Glock 27 is amazing.
