You do your muzzle loader competency after which you get issued with
a 10 year permit to buy powder.

Great fun too. You can buy and sell guns in all shapes and sizes whenever you like.

Step 1: do muzzleloader course and get certificate

Step 2: apply competency certificate at DFO

Step 3: apply black powder permit at chief inspector of explosive office.

I'm starting to get interested in black powder shooting. After I've done the course, more or less how long does it take to get the competency? I guess this is different than the one for fire arms. Then, the same for the black powder permit?

Same as any other competency from SAPS. Anything from 3 to 13 months or so.

The BP permit is from explosives unit, not firearms. They WILL do a proper inspection of facilities, but the permit is issued in a couple of weeks usually
