    Default If you could only pick one

    If you could only have one SLR for sport shooting (3 Gun/ Steel Challenge etc) and range fun, which of the following platforms would you go for:

    1. AR-15 (.223)
    2. AK (7.62x39)
    3. AK/ Galil (.223)
    4. FN FAL/ R1 (7.62x51)
    5. PCC (9mmP) - AR, Ruger, CZ Scorpion, Beretta CX4 Storm etc.
    6. Other (Specify)

    Please state the reason for your choice.

    New to the sport, so opinions are welcome. Thanks!

    CZ Scorpion:
    1.) Can be licensed as handgun (in some cases), leaving room for SLR licensing without issues;
    2.) Very reliable and trusted brand;
    3.) Modularity, Magpul making lots of accessories;
    4.) 9mm cheaper to shoot, easier to reload;
    5.) Can be used in PCC as well as other disciplines;
    6.) damn sexy :)

    Good points. It is one sexy carbine.

    Concerning point 1: I believe the loophole has been closed. Even if it's not, I would rather do a proper application as licensing takes forever now and I would not want to risk having it rejected for silly reasons.

    Not anymore
    CFR stopped this just before lockdown.
    Formalito, S&O etc etc had to change all the guns over to "SLR-Pistol Calibre Carbine"
    Couple guys still waiting for new paperwork before they can submit.
    Applies to all Scorpion models in SA ("pistol", "carbine" etc)

    Can confirm. I had to wait to get it changed as Safari Outdoor only did it when we requested. So if someone here decides to buy one, first ask for papers to change it SLR-Pistol Calibre Carbine.

    Ruger PC9, CZ Scorpion then Ruger PCC.

    In this order.

    1. AR-15 (.223)

    Never owned one (but sooo want to get one) but have watched a ton of Youtube videos and listened to the opinion of those who have owned.

    Low recoil, which means quicker firing, accurate, still packs a punch, ammo isn't as expensive as say 7.62x51, accessories should be easy to come by.
