While you're spending that kind of cash, why not just build a safe? Or, in the case of a solid and heavy safe, get one that's 600kg or more, then you don't even have to mount it, as I have it. It's too heavy to carry off, so you can just place it wherever you'd like.

I always found it annoying to have to bend down get into the safe, so I've added two blocks of concrete about 18cm (each) thick underneath all my safes. These are rawl bolted to the bottom of the safes. (Or just use threaded bar and normal nuts). They add a helluva lot of weight and are easy to position individually and then the safe on top rather than a very heavy safe which is difficult to transport and then move around in the home. Some safes I've drilled right through the wall, put a rawl bolt in from the far side, and then used threaded bar to go through the wall and into the safe. All seem to work. Do it in a corner, and drill through both walls.I'm thinking of bricking up on the exposed side and doing another concrete block for the top. In my previous house I bolted two safes together, then bricked up the exposed side.

Might be a silly question but how does one maneuver a 600kg safe into its final position? I'm pretty sure a forklift wont fit through most peoples front door.

Pallet jack or a couple of pieces of pipe to roll it on.
