Default 12 unlicensed firearms recovered this morning in Table View

A 37-year-old man was arrested when 12 firearms were recovered after a high-speed chase along Potsdam Road this morning. Traffic officers attached to the Random Breath Testing Unit were conducting a checkpoint along Blaauwberg Road in Killarney. At 8am, the driver of a white VW Polo was stopped and interviewed, during which the officer noticed that the driver appeared nervous. Traffic spokesperson Maxine Bezuidenhout said the officer then spotted a red bag on the floor of the passenger seat and asked the driver to step out of the vehicle. He sped off instead, resulting in a high-speed chase along Potsdam Road, into the Dunoon taxi rank. The driver subsequently jumped out of the vehicle with the bag and ran away. During the chase, he threw the bag under a minibus. Officers caught up with the suspect and recovered the bag, revealing 12 pistols with serial numbers filed off. The suspect was detained at Table View SAPS. The matter was handed over to SAPS for further investigation.

Breath testing at 08h00?? What were they testing for? To see whether people have brushed their teeth?

I may be mistaken, but 8, possibly 9 of the 11 fire arms shown, looks like Berreta 9mm Police issue fire arms ?

Surprisingly this time of the day nets a lot of drunk drivers, whether from night clubs, parties or just morning regmakers.

Part of the taxi driver's morning routine is flattening a few quarts.

Well done to that traffic officials for picking this up. Now lets hope the Saps can do something positive with it and there isn't another cop routing the guns back to the gangs.

Looks like socks. Reminded me of how my dad kept his old Unique .22 pistol in a sock in the safe...
