I'm going to go against everyone else here and say go with the Gen5. I carry a 19 and shoot IPSC with a Shadow 2. I've always got to "learn" how to shoot the one gun after some time with the other. I shot a Gen 5 17 the other day and it was very "familiar". If i had funds in the budget now, I'd be buying a Gen 5 17 but keeping the S2.

    Horses for courses.

The Shadows rule production for a reason.
If you find price of the 2 as too unreasonable then go for a used SP01, hopefully 1 with all the go faster bits because the 2 is slightly better.

    Default IPSC Production Gun.

Me and my mates have always shot stock standard glock 19's and 17's. Overseas we competed against guys with full blown race guns and were very competitive. Id say, keep your 45 and spend the money on as much ammo as you can afford to put through it.

You want him to shoot a 45 in production?

To start, I think trigger time is more important than gear. A Glock 45 is just fine for production.

Thanks to everyone for the advice so far!! Im leaning towards a Shadow1 because of the price, but not 100% committed yet.

    Appreciated

So getting use to the one and forgetting the other is an actual thing?

I know that range time with your defensive gun is important
