Default Sending an SA-made Knife to the US

How would I go about sending a small folder to a friend in the US as a "Proudly South African" gift?

Could I just pop it in normal mail? Do I need some or other special permits or what not to do this?

No permits required. Send it Registered Airmail. Very reliable.

Not at all. South African knives made by our knife makers are highly regarded over seas. Look into www.kgsa.co.za. All knives made by hand by our local guys. The raw materials usually come from USA or Sweden.

If you are in the Johannesburg area the annual knife show is around the corner. Sept. 10th-11th you will surely find a knife there.

You have to be careful sending a knife over. Disclosing the amount can result in customs duty, the knife can be confiscated if it has a loose pivot and interpreted as a switch blade. These are some of the factors to consider. You can send it as a gift, but there might still be costs involved if customs checks it out. It all depends on the customs officer that day and how generous he feels if he would quickly let your package through or not.

So I settled on this as my gift:

Being from the South Coast myself, I thought it nice to support another "South Coaster". Awesome service thus far from Trevor. I will let you guys know what I think as soon as I receive the knife, which should be tomorrow or Monday.

Trevor makes great knives! I have one of the first batch knives made with the kit. Really interesting.

Here is a video taking it apart
