    Default Blue Crane Chicks.

Two pairs of blue cranes with chicks. Both photos were taken this morning. Southern Free State, close to Philippolis.

Thanks for these photos. First time I have seen chicks and the coloring of the youngest catches the eye.

I don't think many of the members here have seen the chicks of our national bird? By that I mean in the wild.

A first for me and, I suspect, many others. Thanks again T

We also have a breading pair here on the farm in the Free State near Harrismith. Saw 2 chicks earlier in the week.

    Thanks for sharing TStone.

The dark orange head feathers of the younger chicks heads and the bodies brownish feathers intrigues the mind.

I would gather that it is nature's camouflage for when the chicks are young and helps them to hide?
