Wild animals in the city

This is my resident ystervark, him and his buddy either lives in the storm water system or they use it to gain access to town. I live right on the edge of town so it might be both, dunno, but this little bugger is used to me chasing him around. Each week on garbage day if the bags are not collected they come out to loot the garbage bags, and if the dogs bark too long at night I go out and chase them away.

Yesterday we had a wolkbreuk (cloudburst) of about 40mm in 10 to 15 minutes. I went walking in the flowing water, him and his buddy was stuck on the top of the storm water drain system waiting for the water to subside :)

Coincidence or what? Watched a video on DSTV yesterday and they were showing a whole parliament of owls sitting in a park in an eastern European city. The name of the series is very similar to your heading.

I have a variety of birds visiting my yard and that is why I enjoy TStone's photos of his visitors.

Thanks for posting this. Despite the fact that they can cause considerable damage to crops and water pipes, I really like porcupine. Having something like that in the city at least gives you a bit of interaction with nature. My boss, who lives in London, has told me about a fox that visits their garden regularly. Some wild animals can adapt to city and suburban living surprisingly well.

At one of the sewerage facilities in Pretoria,there has been a family of jackals living there for the past few years. We believe the rats in the vicinity keep them fed. Plenty of grass cover too.

I've got a mating pair of African Harrier Hawks (gymnogene) in a tree behind my complex in Riverclub.

A tortoise just “appeared” in our garden from nowhere.

Although George would probably not be called a city.

Wed do have resident falcons, some owls, breeding pair of hadedas in our front tree and noisy Guinee fowl.
