They have replaceable filters to allow more or less sound. The ones I have in at the moment (black filters)barely allows me to hear conversations.

You do get an electronic option, but it is very expensive (around R9k when I last enquired).

I will strongly recomment them as they are much more comfy than the earmuffs.

These last two years I have definitely been leaning towards something that goes in ear, especially when I still had my bike and used to do track days, I had some "racing spec" earplugs under the helmet and it was very comfy and did a good job of reducing noise, my bike had a straight pipe with an akro, not wearing ear protection resulted in sore, ringing ears.

On occasions when I don't want to wear my peltors I then wear those and they are great.
That is pricey but probably worth looking at, only have one set of ears (and I have already abused them enough ) but I will check out yours.
