Norinco Type 56. Guidance please.
Good Day,
I will soon be in the market to get my first semi-auto rifle.
Are the Norinco Type 56's a good buy? I do want 7.62x39. I would like to get an AR in .223 at a later stage.
Would you recommend this rifle to a first time SLR buyer?
Can one fit a torch to this type?
Can one fit a suppressor to this firearm?
How readily are spares available? How expensive are magazines? How reliable is this rifle?
Any pointers?

They're decent as far as AKM's are concerned. If you really want an AK, rather look at a Saiga. Quality is much better and it's a Russian made AKM. And yes, with a furniture upgrade; you can fit optics, torch etc.
For my money, I'd wait, save a bit more and buy an AR-15. Far more modular.

Ye Saiga is very nice. I heard though that a lot of the components on them are proprietary, so not interchangeable with other AKs, and that their magazines are hellishly expensive. Well expensive compared to the normal AK magazines.
I will for sure buy an AR at some stage, in a year or two. First want an AK. Not looking to put a lot of furniture on. Just a torch, and if possible a suppressor.

Re: Norinco Type 56. Guidance please.
I would consider a S&W M&P 15 Sport, Ruger or a Stag at around R15k a better option than the Saiga. Or at R20k a Troy A3.
Yes there are better option further up in the price range but to dismiss those mentioned for what he wants it for doesn’t make sense.
