What code of drivers license do you need to tow a boat

Imo you are fine to tow a 750kg gvm trailer on a code B

The answer is actually very simple: If the caravan or trailer you are towing has a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of less than 750 kg, you are allowed to tow it with any licence except A or A1. (These are for a motorcycle).
If you want to tow anything that has a GVM of more than 750 kg, you need a licence that has a code beginning with an E – this includes an EB, EC, and EC1.

My friends had to go for EB to be able to get insurance to tow their caravan legally and to be covered by insurance as the GVM was over 750kg.

If i was going to go down that route, i would do EC1, then you can also drive code 10 vehicles as well as code 8. win win in my eyes.

If you had the older license when you transferred to the new one then it will be EB automatically.

Call me stupid but you don't get a 8B code license you get EB.
Which means you are good to tow your boat and enjoy your boat.

Based on the OP age, he is my age, then if he went for Code 8, he got the 'B' license.

When you do the EB , EC, EC1 license, you have to do the driving test with a trailer of a certain length. I think most people just go to a trailer place and rent one for the day that meets the minimum length.

Correct, however the OP’s boat and trailer is licensed as 750kg so it falls under code B.

If the trailer is over 750kg but the towing vehicle falls under a B license then a Code EB is required.

Many moons ago when doing the conversion from the old to the new license system I was given the choice whether I wanted go to "B" or "EB" from the old "code 8". No test required.
