The 6.5 Creedmoor and the 6.8 Western are two very different cartridges. Your intended application will determine which one is the most suitable.

The .277 calibre has been held back by the 1 in 10 twist and 130-150gr bullets. It can now spread its wings. A lot of SA shooters own 270's and they have love affairs with them. Let us see how sales go in the USA.

I suspect nothing will come of it in SA, seeing as it’s a hunting cartridge.

Firstly, it’s not a gong cartridge, shooting high BC bullets means nothing when the recoil is too much.
Even in the states most PRS guys use 6mm not 6.5 anymore, for that same reason, you want BC not recoil.
Secondly if it won’t be used for that purpose how many people are going to buy 175gr 270 bullets, or buying 1:7.5 barrels?
I suspect not many, hence how will the market be created for components like these?

Nice to have, for sure, realistic for people in SA, not so sure.

Its basically a slightly shortened .270 WSM so that you can use heavy, high BC bullets in the same mag length.

Cartridge is longer than the 270WSM to have the longer bullets seated out more.

It might have a longer neck than the .270 wsm but the overall length of the case is shorter. According to what I've read the 6.5 western has ±10% less case capacity than the .270 wsm.

    I love my 270wsm.
Once the barrel has been shot out, I should consider replacing it with a barrel that can take heavier bullets, but the 130gr works just fine for me
