    Default Guinea Fowl Nest.

I was stalking a herd of gemsbok just before sunrise this morning, as I sneaked through a line of trees, next to a dry stream bed, a guinea fowl exploded from next to a bush less than 2 meters away from me. Once I got my heart restarted, I investigated and found this nest.

According to Roberts' Birds, a hen can lay 6-19 eggs. I am not sure what percentage of eggs hatch but looking at the number of chicks in a flock at the end of the breeding season, I'd say most. After hatching they have to face a multitude of animals and birds that want to make a meal of them.

I've never seen this, thanks. I always thought they would make a nest in a tree, since I often see them overnighting in trees.

They do roost in trees and on power lines but they nest on the ground.
