SAPS website not updating...

In first week January i phoned my DFO as my app was approved 25/11. Just to check. He then said oh I have your card. I said great on my way to collect. He said No wait. He must first scan it in as at station he will call me. He phoned me 2 days later.

I believe once they scan it in at station you receive sms

Can anyone perhaps explain to me how the system works, who updates the website?

Let me explain, I handed in an S16 pistol application last year June. Now on the 15th of January, I handed in further paperwork for competencies. While at the DFO, I thought I may as well ask, how far along my license is, as the website still says...

"You will be notified by the DFO when the card is ready for collection."


Low and behold my card was there. HAPPY DAYS! SO I took the card, and went to fetch my pistol from the dealer. This morning, 25 February, the website still says the same thing...

"You will be notified by the DFO when the card is ready for collection."


So if this is the case, then the website is pointless, cause I cannot "believe" what the system says on the website, and I need to go to the DFO every couple of weeks to find out if my new card(s) are there?

Has anyone had this issue?

They can be really fast like the time I handed in two semi auto long gun apps and had cards in hand in under 2 months and they can take upwards of 2 years for a regular S13 pistol license.

The only thing consistent about them is the lack of consistency

So that doesnt update ever. Once its approved thats the last thing you will see on the website

So what is the chance of an application that has been completed and approved weeks or months ago but still showing "In consideration" and has been for 4 months???

Could it be that it possibly got approved and sent for printing but it has never updated either?

Yes, it could be ready. Emphasis on "could"

It never updates after "You will be notified by the DFO when the card is ready for collection."

LoL, ja I always expect more... Agg to be honest, my dealings with my DFO(s) and CFR, has been a pleasant experience, although a "long drawn out experience".

I just wanted to understand how and when the website gets updated after the card has been delivered, and given to the person, but by the sounds of it, the message I see, is the last one, one would see. So my question has been answered.
