    Not many will answer.

Be practical and make a logical plan.

Maybe you have kids to accommodate.

Best is out of sight but within reach.

Valid question. Not being a dick. This has been discussed plenty on this site.

Remember your on an open public forum so you're not likely going to get much from others.

There are different means. As said above, folks won't share their secrets but I am willing to share what I have read, seen and heard.

A SAP (not SAPS) officer told me about a false front on his headboard. He slept with his hands above his head, so access was easy.

There are bedside holsters available in different designs.

One guy slept on top of his firearm.

Some use cloth to cover their firearms.

DO NOT put it beneath your pillow, or on the bedside table.

It's simple LOCK your bedroom door. That way the bad guy will have to break down your door to get to you and your EDC is safe next to your bed.

If you sleep without some kind of a barrier between you and the bad guy you are a sitting duck snoring away.

How does this work if you have young kids and they wake up in the early hours and want to get into bed with you or they need attention?

This is a normal occurrence in many households.

Yes I though about including that but didn't.

I guess it depends on the layout of the house, if you have a passage from which the bedrooms are all connected then you could put a security gate before the bedrooms.

You could give the kids keys to your bedroom.

It's up to you though, all I'm saying is that if you are snoring away in bed anyone can sneak up on you and hold a gun to your head. Just the way it is.

It helps very much if your kids are firearm-safe. It means that they know not to touch or toy with firearms. At least they will probably not be fiddling with firearms at night. Block access to the sleeping area of the house- both with a physical barrier and an alarm. That way the kids can come and go as they like.
