Default Which one of you lost a Boer goat ?

At 14:12 this afternoon a Boer goat ran down our street. My wife looked at me and what the heck was that?

I said it was a very speedy Boer goat. Don't know where he was going but he was headed east pretty fast.

Maybe he didn't want to participate in the braai.

We had a 100 year blizzard ice/snow storm 2 weeks back and now we have a Boer goat running wild. What a great start to 2021........

A few years ago a regular goat jumped from a pet zoo truck (?) in my neighborhood and ended up in a Dog Park. One of the responders sheepishly admitted that they had to tase it in order to, err... rescue it.

My bliksem, shows you what I know about farm animals! Here I was under the impression that all domestic goats are "boerbokke", (i.e. goats you farm with), I honestly did not know it's a specific breed. Consider me slightly more educated!

My wife used to manage a small herd (±100) Boer goats. At one stage we had two orphaned Boer goat kids living in our house.
From these experiences I can tell you that Boer goats are highly intelligent, yet, simultaneously, incredibly stupid, are unbelievably inventive escape artists, can occasionally be frighteningly aggressive and are always utterly stubborn. They are also very destructive and will happily eat anything from your prize flowers to whatever is hanging on the washing line. The kids (obviously not the hand reared ones with names) are good eating.

They are mostly, but not always, white with reddish brown heads. The breed has been exported to many countries and I have seen a few in the USA.
