1000 a year is R2500 savings a year if you reload. For me that's worth it. As it means a new pistol every 3 or 4 years.
For most R200 a month isnt worth the time it takes

When reloading, the reloaded round cost is much cheaper than buying ammo.

Getting to the point of producing the loaded round is what costs money.

The cheap range ammo is made on hobby presses by local "manufacturers", it is nowhere near the quality of factory ammo.

For that reason alone, either reload, or choose between PMP or S&B ball, whichever is cheaper.

Chiming in on the 'remanufactured' ammo. The overwhelming majority of ammo failures that I've seen have been related to dodgy locally reloaded stuff. I wouldn't even consider buying it rather than factory stuff if I wasn't going to reload.

the fun and satisfaction factor of reloading your own ammo makes it worth it

I don't find reloading handgun ammo fun after the first 20 rounds. I do it because I must.

I'd rather buy factory new ammo than local remanufactured ammo if I can't reload.

The value of the guaranteed once fired brass is also often more than the difference between factory new and remanufactured stuff anyway.

Rather than setting how many rounds you'll fire in a year, set aside a budget for handgun ammo. Then its easy to tell where your break even point is with a budget press, time and how much ammo you'll have for the year

If you have the press already, it's worth getting the dies and components... Even if it's just to cover yourself in case of an ammo shortage.

I am @ r2.05 per round (compared to the usual price of r6 per round).
I dont always save money but i for sure shoot more.

If you shoot a finite number of rounds per year, calculate your costs, but it will definitely be worth it.

If you do have time you can save R4000 a year to cast your own bullets and reload. Or shoot more for the same money as the factory ammo.
