    Default Interbond VS GMX

    Hi All

So through my wheeling and budget hunting I now own 165gr Interbonds and 150gr GMX bullets.

They are both for reloading for my 30-06.

In what hunting situations would you use which bullets?

For example would you load the Interbond slower and the GMX to 3000fps?

Or load both to a accurate load and then depending on animal switch?

PS I only have the one hunting rifle.

My rifles are loaded for hunting purposes with mono's and I utilise the highest safe node in all instances. I use them for all types of hunting and don't discern between bushveldt and plains.

Both are good hunting bullets. My preference is the GMX, purely because I trust it more for breaking heavy bone on large antelope.
The only caliber in which I have used both the Interbond and GMX is the .300 win mag, 180gr loaded to 2900fps.
I never had any problems with either when hunting animals ranging from springbok to eland. All bullets penetrated sufficiently, even on long shots both expanded reliably.
Longest shot with the Interbond was a springbok at 372m, longest shot with GMX a springbok at 405m.

TStone would probably agree with you.

If a mono opens up on a springbuck at 405m then it is a good one.

I shoot mono to avoid lead ingestion and because they don't break up and have given very good service in all my calibre's so far. Consistency gives accuracy and the same goes for killing ability.

Load both to top safe node and shoot both, simple as that.

Load both to highest accurate velocity, perhaps use the cheaper bullets for smaller stuff and the GMX for those big kudu, eland and W/beeste

Personally I hate having more than one bullet type, usually needs scope adjustment before using and then decision making before hunting, naaaaaaaa !
Find a bullet you like and stick to it.

I know there are better bullets out there (most certainly), but for me I will always be more than happy with a Hornady Interbond.

To me, using different types (cheap) are part of the pleasure getting range time. Then, when the hunt is planned, choose the one you have finely tuned and want to hunt with.

So I have worked up theoretical target velocities for both bullets to load over the weekend.
30-06 Howa, Hornady Brass (1 Fired FL Sized), Fiocchi Primers, H4350, COAL 3.3inch - Calculations are based of reloading data by Hodgdon, Hornady, Lee and GRT.

GMX 150gr Target Speed 2850 FPS (56.4gr Calculated) (MAX LOAD 57.8)
Interbond 165gr Target Speed 2760 FPS (56.0gr Calculated) (MAX LOAD 59.0)

Below is the trajectory charts as per Hornady Website with Zero at 150YDS which give a theoretical MPBR of 200YDS for Both. Based on these trajectories I can shoot both bullets comfortably to 250m without adjusting my Zero.

So after I have don my 10 shot ladder test on Saturday I will report back.
