Re: All .375 H&H Magnum owners : .375 H&H Magnum hunting in the Kalahari: Bullet choice 250gn or 230
Herewith drop of bullet that supports Messor's advice. Loads were done with S355 and 24 inch barrel and highest safe node was used. Although theoretical values from QL, they should be close. 200 yard zero. Yards and inches used throughout
Impala 200gr - 2950fps
300 = -7,8 ; 400 = 23,4
Barnes TSX 235gr - 2890fps
300 = -8,6 ; 400 = 26,7
Sierra 250gr SPBT - 2680fps
300 = -9,1 ; 400 = 26,9
Sierra 300gr SPBT - 2570fps
300 = -9,2 ; 400 = 26,5

Re: All .375 H&H Magnum owners : .375 H&H Magnum hunting in the Kalahari: Bullet choice 250gn or 230
Looking at the data, the 235gn bullet over the 400yards distance loses some momentum fast in comparison to the heavier 250gn bullet...interesting..so I can correctly assume the 250gn bullet is the optimal choice for better pentation...although two different material constructed bullets ? Barnes vs Sierra????
Opinions in this regards will be much appreciated ..
Would like to know the BC of each of these two bullets as well please??

Driepoot, will you be so kind as run the comparison between these two bullets in a 26" barrel? Will it be possible to run the Perigrine 250 VLT as well in your comparison??

With 26 inch barrel
235 TSX and 300 Sierra get the same speed at the node and drop figures are therefore the same.
250 Sierra -7,8 and -22,9 at speed of 2873fps (max pressure)
250 Per VLR4 -7,5 and -22 at speed of 2840fps (max pressure)
250 Kriek -8 and -25 speed 2840fps (max pressure)
The results will depend on BC's used by QL. Some suppliers give larger BC values to sell their products.
Between mono and conventional bullets the lighter 235 TSX should give better penetration than the 250gr Sierra.

Members, this is really a great informative discussion. I really am appreciate your valuable input a lot. The following phrase I have recently seen cropping up a lot of times in other discussions about different bullets, their weights, penetration performances ect "Manufacturers give their bullets a higher BC to sell better" many years ago similar discussions was done around the
very important " Sectional Density" of a bullet..today nobody even mention SD of a bullet???
How is the BC of a bullet determine? Is there only standard used by bullet companies to determine the BC of their bullet products ?
Why does hunting bullets even have a BC if you hunt normally at ranges from 50 meter to 200meter??
Surely drag can not have such a great impact on these short hunting distances??
At distances past 500 meters maybe , definitely past 1000meter for sure.
