    Dryfire probably x2 ( conservatively)
All other parts except the ones pictured have been replaced in the course of the guns lifetime so only these have been with the gun since new and seen the full roundcount.
All ammo shot has been 170 - 180PF
A reduced power recoil spring has been in the gun since 10k - replaced every 3 - 4k - i mention this because there is less spring force on the gun so probably been slamming itself apart more.

Was this for CMJs only or powdercoated as well?

Vast majority has been powder coated.
It's not so much the rifling that went. The barrel lock up got loose. It stopped hitting the center of primers, the lighter recoil springs also didn't help that problem. Changed the locking block out and that's tightened it up again but still a bit loose.

The same thing happened with my first 17. That barrel was shot out too though.

I ended up having to use progressively larger diameter bullets to get it to group.

I didn't keep accurate track of round count but it was between 75 to 100k.

So the polymer/powder coated bullets are reported to have a usable barrel life 6 times that of the CMJs.

If only we had someone with the budget to put that to the test.

Thanks SSP, in that case mine is barely run in.

Paul, the cmj jackets, are they also not a 'tad' softer than FMJ bullets that have thicker, swaged jackets?
So even using these should help compared to regular FMJ.

If course, powder coating will be softer than even cmj.

In my personal opinion even more times. Less powder charge and less pressures also play a role.

    Weeellll...

GOSA will be conducting such a test over the next two years... with a 50BMG!

Barrel life on the Truvelo 50 cal is supposed to be about 2 000 rounds with FMJ. We will be running 400 rounds a month through the gun every month from next month. If we can push barrel life over 10 000 rounds we'll be very happy.

    I'll report back.

BTW... the 'bullet' will weigh 950 grains!

'Taint necessarily so. I have some of the first production run of CMJ's from KZN Ammo. They are so hard that they can't be crimped into the cases.

The polymer is magic stuff. It just won't separate from the core. You beat it stukkend with a 4 pound hammer on an anvil, and the polymer doesn't crack. Try the same with a CMJ and the flacks of copper start to fall off.

I have personally (along with Lynette) gone through more than 25 000 125gn Silver Rapids in a little over a year with not a single hassle.
