Thread: Gun prices

  1. #1

    Default Gun prices

Recently bought a new gun (shadow 2 OR) and was surprised (perhaps shocked) to see the prices at gunshops in jhb.

When did a shadow 1 start selling for 22k?

Is there some gun shortage ?

They are R19,600 at Safari Outdoor

There seems to be a big difference between certain Gauteng shops recently.
Especially on Glocks, H&K and Some CZ
    Pays to shop around

When it was decided that Production division was Shadow Division, the prices went crazy.
It got worse when the Shadow 2 came out, they had to fill the price gap between the two and they chose to increase the shadow 1 price.

You get good deals here and there. Just shop around. I know Ihawu had one on sale recently (shadow 1)

Remember when S&O had the S1 on offer for 15k and I didn't jump on it, think it was about 2 years ago, non-buyers remorse.

    Basically all things leisure.

In my other life, 2017 and 2018 at the end of the year the dealerships had specials of 95K for a brand new dirtbike (KTM300), FFWD 3 years and the base model for 2022 (due in 2 months time) will be 148K. 50% increase on the same base model in a space of 3-4 years.

I have recently started looking around for a new mountain bike and I immediately stopped looking. Not even talking EMTB money there are 100% human powered bicycles selling for 160K and even more. I get told you rock up at a stage type race for MTB and the ave cost of a MTB is 100K +.

And the biggest problem here is marketing capitalizing on human nature. Whenever you enjoy or excel at a hobby you want morer and betterer too be cooler or the best.

Anyway, back to aid OP. In 2019 when I was hunting for a S2, stock was quite low at the time but there were dealers selling them for 20-22K. I was lucky enough to pick up a sub 200 round unit for 17K and in the box the price tag of late 2018 was R18 890 and in 3 years they have also gone up by around 50% (27-30K) same as my motorcycle equivalent I mentioned above.

What a time to be alive. (Africa X inflation) X Covid = bum rush of the wallet for anything fun.

Thing is rand dollar is crazy good. So if dealers buy now you would except the next batch lands at lower price but alas will never happen.

    Remember seeing a S2 about 18k to 20k. Now almost 30k.

It amazes me that the Shadow prices have jumped through the roof, but not the PO7 etc.

    All are up
Comparing an ad I have from October 2019 to Today (Todays price from S&O non special price list)

    CZ P07 R7,790 to R11,224 (44% increase)
CZ P09 R9,590 to R11,949 (24% increase) (sold out so new stock may be higher)
    CZ P10C R7,790 to R10,774 (38% increase)
    CZ Shadow 2 R22,500 to R27,499(22% increase)

So Shadow 2 is only up 22% while P07 is up 44%

Shadow 2 was on special for Mothers day weekend at R26,124

Same period from October 2019 to Today
    Glock 19X R11,950 To R14,449 (21% increase)
    Glock 19 Gen 3 R6,799 to R7,999 (18% increase)

Big one is Glock 34 Gen 5 MOS FS was R14,300 at Zimbi till sold out last month
    Current price R17,399 at S&O
Almost 22% increase in the same year

The biggest driver of prices currently is the transport costs. Since Covid the transport costs have gone through the roof. There is a worldwide shortage of airfreight which has caused a 300%+increase in that cost alone. This is also the reason why imported powder has gone from average R700 per can to R900+ and why so many products are just out of stock.
