Import scope from Germany
Good morning,
My cousin is visiting soon. He is an Australian citizen with SA passport living in Germany . We will be hunting with his rifles that are legally stored in SA. He wants to bring a scope over to fit on his Ruger MK77 .308 with paddle stock.
Would it be legal provided he pays the import tax?
TIA for your opinion.

Re: Import scope from Germany
A scope does not need a license. A child can bring it in.

Re: Import scope from Germany
I was on aa UK site yesterday looking at a Browning Shotgun Vest. And when reading their International shipping rules. It said they may only export up to 9x. Anything above they do not.
Not sure why. But he will have to check German rules. I know HK once stopped supplying SA for some or other reason. So the German arms people may not like SA.

Make sure it's not in the checked in luggage.
Keep it in your hand luggage, or it will get stolen.
The baggage handlers at ORT are experts at post flight luggage processing.

Re: Import scope from Germany
I tried to get a turret cap for a SB scope and was unsuccessful due to German export laws.

Re: Import scope from Germany
You'll find that airport personnel don't necessarily enforce export laws with regard to personal property.
As long as the item is not on the restricted materials list, and it's your personal property, it comes with you.
Asking a supplier to ship it to you is a completely different story, because they have to obey the export laws.
The only thing I would worry about is if the local importer will honor that scope warranty, because getting it to and from where it came from for exchange or repair is not feasible.
