    Default 458 WIN MAG Suggestions

    Hello,

    So both my 6.5 creedmoor and 50 bmg was approved recently, so i'm looking in to another rifle...

    - I have all the reloading components for 458 win mag;

    Which rifle and why ?

    Winchester mod 70 pre64 is high on my list currently.

    Thanks!

    In what role is it going to be used? Hunting, PH or guiding tourists?

    Hi Driepootx,

    Thank you for the reply;

    I believe it will be used not for general hunting, but more towards guide / ph work in well bushed areas.

    Thanks

    Some ideas:

    The classic solution would be a custom double rifle.

    Another classic would be a Ruger No 1.

    Or maybe a good old BRNO ZKK, just because of its legendary reliability?

    Why?, buy a .22 and you covered for everything that walks the planet or likely ever has and you will be able to afford to feed the BMG.

    Note: the 458 Win Mag earned it's bad name due to old ammunition. I know this because it happened to a relative who did culling and follow-ups.

    The fun and happy part is that one should be able to put new life into the calibre with the imported powders available.

    I agree with the ZKK option, something to think about.

    - Not looking in to a double; or well, if i would purchase a double it would be in 470 / 577 NE

    Yea, my research also points towards old powders that was not sufficient given the case length of the 458 win mag.

    On a reasonable budget there is the Winchester new model 70 controlled feed and the Cz550. The Win feels slimmer and nicer in the hand. The CZ feels like a tank. That may or may not be to your liking. I have a factory FN on their straight wall Mauser action which whilst a nasty piece of work from a bench seems to have the solidity (my perception) lacking in the Win without the bulk of the CZ.
