Where do you store your knives?
I do not have many knives by they are becoming more? So my horror I took out my Dunn hunting knife and saw some rust on the cutting edge. This made me wonder where do you store /keep your knives?
Is it feasibleto have a display case made or just a neat drawer?

Re: Where do you store your knives?
If stored in a leather sheath the chances of rust increases.
Wipe the blade with a lightly oiled cloth, and store in a piece of cotton cloth.

Re: Where do you store your knives?
One at 02h30 on my belt, one left inside front pocket, a cheapy in the door panel of my bakkie, 2 in my hunting box, 2 in my wingshooting box, one in my range bag, a kukri in between my shirts and a couple on the dining room table or piano.
The rest goes into a wooden box that was my grandfather's gun cleaning box, so it is well impregnated with gun oil.
It would seem that I've been fairly fortunate with rust, the only one affected thus far, was the Opinel.

An Opinel without rust hasn't worked yet

I just leave them lying around in my man cave.
(but take them out of their sheaths)

Re: Where do you store your knives?
This is what I mean. I used this knife and another (Kershaw) over the weekend hunt. Washed both blades after use. Kershaw is still fine but when I pulled this one from sheath it looked like the pic. Is this normal for a custom knife or are Kershaw made from.better steel?

Wow, that's a serious patina!
I would say that if that has happened over a couple of days, there's a real problem with the steel..... if it is steel!

Re: Where do you store your knives?
I believe most, if not all, Dunn blades are 1085 steel. It's a carbon steel... Tough with good edge retention, but needs some protection if you don't want it to rust. If you washed it and put it back in its sheath without thoroughly drying it and wiping it with oil, it will rust.

Re: Where do you store your knives?
It is carbon steel; very good to work with but it will rust while you look at it given the wrong circumstances. Yours was probably still wet, and the combination of dampness and the chemicals in the leather caused the rust to develop.
