PJ Schoeman was a great writer about hunting. Loved Doc Immelman as well.

Someone who is still around but mostly retired is Kevin Thomas - he has some nice anecdotes blogged on his website if you fancy a read. He's also written a few books about his exploits. Just not a syndicated writer in the usual mags.

If you want to include authors, then there are the likes of John Coleman, Richard Harland, Peter Flack, Ron Thomson, John Sharpe etc

A magazine that does still tend to have good hunting stories (as opposed to the reviews that largely make up Magnum and SA Hunter) is the African Hunting Gazette.

    Bob Meyer.
What a informative writer of a few articles in the Magnum.
As a PH he was one of the best old hands and combined an ethical and technical approach to hunting.
He did an article called " The de-compressed .458" in the Magnum ( one of a few he did) The article addressed the age old issue of 500Gr .458 loads compressed and delivering unreliable ingition / performance.
The likes of the .458 lott was born from the concerns.
These long gone "old hands" is surely missed.
Cheers on these old "Hard boss" boys

Used to love Brian Marsh's writings. The true experienced African PH. I remember once when he wrote something about encountering lions in the field, a type of myth debunking topic. He spoke about the technique of moving towards a charging lion and shouting at it, saying that it had worked for him a few times (while everyone else just speculates). Experience!
