Israel's Iron Dome defense system is quite amazing

It has had to cope with hundreds of rockets from Gaza the past couple days, and it looks pretty spectacular while doing so.

Still an amazing system. In one clip i saw, it was mentioned that not even the USA has this technology.

None of these systems are full proof, active self protection systems have been active on Soviet tanks since the invasion of Afghanistan. Iron Dome does have a very high intercept rate of 75% (I can't remember where I read that) or there abouts.

I wonder if the Israeli economy can keep this up? Hamas make a lot these rockets themselves or they are supplied via Iran, and they're cheap. Barak 8 missiles run at $40 000 a piece.... X 100 they used last night and are going to use in the future.

I think you mean, can the USA afford to keep funding. Answer is yes

Weaponised off the shelf (or even DIY) drones would be cheaper and more effective. I find it baffling why they haven't gone with that option.

Yup, was just checking out other interesting vids about that last night.
I'm sure they've got their own similar Hebrew version of the saying 'boer maak 'n plan'.
Close friends emigrated to Israel a year or two ago, and whilst they feel vastly safer from all the things that drive people from SA, they have these other kinds of stresses/fears to deal/live with.
I lived there for short period of time in the mid 90s - fascinating and beautiful country and people.

Honestly, I rather deal with the Palestinians and their rockets than the locals in South Africa. How many Israelis were killed by Palestinian rockets this year vs how many 'previously advantaged' were killed by the 'previously disadvantaged' in South Africa? And even worse, in South Africa it can happen anywhere at any time! In Israel at least it happens for a short period and at certain times. The best part is: In Israel I feel protected by the government. In South Africa I was not. Actually the South African government saw me as the 'previously advantaged', although I and my parents only emigrated there when Mandela was released from prison. #GoFigure
