The ones that are on the market, old names, you just use, tried and tested over many years.
If you using a home brew, just insure barrel time is kept low, a few minutes at most. I for one no longer subscribe to domestic strength ammonia being able to damage a barrel.
It is also said to be good practice to clean barrel with a non ammonia cleaner after using ammonia, I use Windowlene or Benzene.

Ammonia does not affect steel at room temperature. Be careful of your stock finish: do not spill!
Will not affect blue finish either.

It does not affect steel, but it does affect the other alloying metals used in barrel steel. Mostly, the nickel first. Chrome slightly slower.

So, if you have to use ammonia to remove copper/brass, do so sparingly; every 500 or so shots. Do not, like me, do it every time you clean the rifle. But, mostly, don't. There are better copper removers out there.

Ive for years used Hoppes 9. Recently bought Hoppes Elite and it works great so far.

A bit more pricey then the No 9.

Fortunately not. It was the only explanation that I could get for the deterioration of my barrel.

I use Sweets 7.62 copper solvent from Aussie land. It is an ammonia gel. I use it every 4 to 600 rounds. It turns copper/zinc jacket left overs into
a green copper oxide in 15 mins.

If you use it in the house your wife or g/f will beat you with a broom until you are mostly dead. Don't ask. It has a really strong smell of ammonia.
