Jip and it sounds like they have a very well organized system in place and they are quite a threat to the normal mining houses profit margin.

These Zama-zamas are part of the crime syndicates. The syndicate members are estimated to number around 2 million, and their numbers are growing rapidly. With the decline in the economy and resulting job losses, the syndicates could easily grow to around 15 mil in the next few years. They are extremely well organized and trained, and their influence stretches far and wide. It is estimated that the last few police commissioners were all crime syndicate commissioners as well. The current one obviously fits the bell. This begs the question, how deep have they penetrated the SAPS. Difficult to quantify at this stage, but we can be certain that a big percentage of the SAPS are indeed also syndicate members. That goes for all ranks.

Syndicates and gangs get trained in certain skills, that they specialize in. Once they have done their part, they can get promoted to higher levels and skills. The zama-zamas are are fairly low level, but this type of equipment shows that they are not at the bottom of the ladder. Obviously the car-jacking, CIT and farm murder guys are a few step higher.

It is not inconceivable that some day the syndicate members will outnuber the total of SAPS, SADF and private security officers combined. Think about that for a while...

That may be an old number. It is quite possible that we are at around 3,5 million already. The numbers are indeed growing fast.

R4 or galil? Lesotho had tons during Operation Boleas. Pretty sure their controls are worse than here
