Firearms Amendment Bill of 2021
Posted it here, but can an admin/mod please move it if it's not in the right place?
Anyway, just saw that this is going into public comment. I can't find much about it, but what are the thoughts from guys like Oom Paul on this so far? I'm worried - probably with good reason:

Re: Firearms Amendment Bill of 2021
not sure how reducing the number of legal firearms in public hands is going to reduce crime. Most of the violent crimes is by people who don't bother with a license anyway

Re: Firearms Amendment Bill of 2021
"The changes will assist in reducing the number of firearms in private hands and consequently reduce incidents of violent crimes. The Bill also improves the processing, control of firearms and the application system."
This scares me!

Re: Firearms Amendment Bill of 2021
The new bill is calling for
" ... the establishment of the National Firearms Register. "
Since when did we not have that ?
There is a database of serial numbers matched to owner ID numbers, with owner location and contact details.
This database encompasses all firearms and all firearm owners in the county.
The efficiency of a system is limited by the efficiency of the people operating the system.
Even if the government had to keep a kidney sample on file for each of us, they would still lose the samples, mix them up, mis-identify the analysis and forget where the report was.
It's time to privatise the firearm register and license application process.
Who do you trust to manage your bank account ? The government, or a private company ?
Important things can't be given to the government to manage.

Re: Firearms Amendment Bill of 2021
1.1. Cabinet approved the publication of the Firearms Amendment Bill of 2021 for public comment. The Bill proposes tighter controls and management of firearms and the establishment of the National Firearms Register. The changes will assist in reducing the number of firearms in private hands and consequently reduce incidents of violent crimes. The Bill also improves the processing, control of firearms and the application system.
So they want to "improve the application system" ?
How the fuck does reducing the number of of firearms in private hands reduce violent crime?
DISARM the SAPS and SANDF, then see crime reduce......

Re: Firearms Amendment Bill of 2021
You can be guaranteed that whenever the government introduces new laws for firearms, it is never a positive for the law abiding firearm owner. I will be really surprised if this is any different.
How about they start by getting a system up and running on all the guns and ammunition in SAPS possession so that they can't be sold off to gangsters by corrupt cops. How about better security at SANDF so that guns aren't stolen from them.
Nooo they have to come after law abiding citizens.

Re: Firearms Amendment Bill of 2021
My guess is that this draft will have everything from the 2018 draft just minus the banning of self defense licenses as that was the only section that got the public really riled up.
I hope the public is on our side against the ballistic fingerprinting, severe restrictions on semi-auto rifles and shotguns, against that little clause that makes you unable to carry a S15/16 firearm as an EDC and against all the other nonsense.
