If I have it correct, the volume of a suppressor makes a big difference in its performance, together with the shape of the baffles. My plan is to get a thick, short suppressor. It just needs to take the worst decibels off the shot.

Thanks chaps. The length question has just been answered, going to 16” seems like an option then

Will one need special hand loads to get reasonably good down range results?
I would like 16-16.5 on my build.

I have seen a few .303's cut down, suppressed and fitted with R4 folding stock used as "bakkie" rifles. Maybe an option if you want it as compact as possible?

On photos those look functional and they would probably work well. My preference is for a solid stock. However, I have a few months till the card arrives. It gives plenty of time to rethink everything.

I don’t think you would need a special load, that being said there is a great “soft” load that gives great results in my Long Lee’s, SMLE’s and No4’s:

    38,5gr S335
    OAL: 77,6mm
    174gr PMP softpoint

They are nice. The only thing is the stock needs to fold down along the left side of the rifle so you can work the bolt on the right.

Have a look at the Ase Utra SL5i, it only ads 4" to overall length and the ones I have seen in the veld were surprisingly effective.
