Default What is the beach situation in Balito- north coast

We have booked a holiday from 9 Dec -17Dec at Balito. I am getting mixed messages of sewage issues in the ocean and the beach sand. I have come across a few news articles which are contradictory.

Can anyone who stays there indicate the following:
Safety of the water at the beach
Amy reports of ecoli induced illnesses

    Thank you in advance

Jirr. That has the potential to tarnish a holiday.

Look up Pete's Posts on Facebook. Seems that pretty much the whole North Coast from and including Durban is a no go.https://www.facebook.com/Petespostza1

Not sure about Ballito, but further north at Zinkwazi the sea is clean. The actual issue is in Durban. The offshore current is mainly north to south, but inshore currents and wind can drive contaminated water northwards

You will be fine at Ballito.
If the south easter blows for a few days I might be concerned, but other than that you shouldn't have issues.

Plenty cases coming through from that area even though is north of much of the issue reported .
I be careful ( it’s not only the GI issues but ENT as well )

We were there last week. All is good. Somewhere there was a report that they tested the water. I know around Umhlanga is definitely a no-go.

Not sure where you live, but if driving down from Gauteng, be careful on the N3 from PMB to Durban. Lots of construction with only two lanes available. Driving back, the trucks were standing still in the left lane from about 10km outside Howick right up to PMB.

The official test results seem to be vastly at odds with independent tests.
