    Default Larger Firearm Safe

    Hey all

I currently have a Xpanda No.1 safe and space is a nightmare in it.

Basically I have the following in it :
    Handgun in holster
    2 boxes of ammo
    Spare mag
    Some documents

Just with that the safe is full to the brim, I've had to remove some other valuable items to make space.

Does anyone know of a decent safe that is larger?

I've been thinking of getting a rifle safe and fitting a wood liner so I can add shelves, that way I can fit quite a bit more in it.

Any opinions would be most welcome

I have the same safe and same problem.
I can get in 2 handguns, 1 box of 20 round ammo and 2 magazines. Lucky for me i have another small safe which i currently use to store documents and spare mags and ammo.

I was however thinking of getting a rifle safe from Rebel Rifle Safe SA like the one below

Bought a rifle safe today from a chap in Somerset West.
Looks to be a 3 rifle safe, no rifle stands though.

    Got it for R1000.

Has a few scuffs on it and a bit of surface rust on the bottom but overall in decent shape.

    Good deal.
It is easy enough to make and place the rifle stands.

The safe should have L brackets to screw a profiled timber on to, these are generally welded on during fabrication.
If no L brackets then your closest hardware shop will have some standard galvanised brackets in various sizes.
Simply screw the on to the back panel with tek screws.

The timber support can be cut and profiled as necessary (or desired) or if no jigsaw is available then a simple V notch cut with a handsaw can work.

Screw the rifle support battern to the L brackets and job done.

I have 2 spare smaller handgun safes if you interested in just getting a second/third one for space?

I think the one is an xpanda 1 and 3.

Last month I bought a Chubb Cat 2 safe on Gumtree for 8000. It weighs over a 1000kg's according to Loots Safes who came to deliver it.

    I placed it inside Garage.

I cant tell you how relaxed I am to leave home knowing there is no way anyone getting easily into it.

Normal safes has a very low time rating to gain access. Even when SABS approved.

Also got an old, but bombproof Chubb safe. They don't make em like they used to. Not a rifle sized safe but can hold handguns and valuables. No one is getting in that thing.

I've had a look at those safes and thought it wasnt really practical for my type of setup.

I've ordered some Rustrite Black Hammered paint to refurb my safe. Then I'm going to stick it in my spare bedroom cupboard.
