As per my post above this one the quality control might not be as per the high end ammo and thus the rim might be a bit ticker or harder or might not have enough priming compound.

Do you have an photo after you fired it the second time?

The brass hardness is a major factor in FTF. My Krico rifle battles with Swartklip. A temporary cure is to remove the firing pin and stretch the spring. This ensures a harder strike and better ignition.

Luckily never had that problem with my Krico.

The reason why 22LR is not a round to be used for sd. This is normal behaviour for the round, no problem as far as I can see.

That is where .22 must be struck.

That photos shows it strikes the whole area that is supposed to house the priming compound.

To what do you compare this fire pin strikes to?

Another .22 you own or an center fire cartridge you are used to?
I've yet to compare it to the cases from my BRNO

    Unfortunately not!

Thank you to everyone for sharing their wisdom, it puts my mind at ease knowing that this is 'normal' for standard grade 22lr ammo which may have a harder brass base/unevenly distributed priming compound!

Would rimfire semi autos be more prone to this issue vs bolt actions?

Make sure the firing pin and firing pin channel are free of oil.

I have used American Eagle exclusively in my Zastava .22 bolt action. About 500 rounds now, and have had 4 FTF. All 4 fired on second attempt. 2 out of 220 sounds about right.

I second this bit of advice. If my Brno gets a bit gummy in the firing pin channel the FTF rate goes up dramatically.

Having done a fairly recent exercise where I shot 27 different .22 loads to find the cheapest my rifle liked I concur that less than 1 FTF per hundred is perfectly within the normal range.
